Science and Technology Education Programme (STEP)
The NASAC STEP Working Group consists of experts in science and technology education pedagogy and curricula from different African countries. Given the significance of science and technology education in development, NASAC established STEP Focal Points from its membership consisting of individuals who are actively involved in formulating science and technology policies in their countries. The focal points serve as the advisory body to the Board of NASAC on science and technology education matters. They also work towards providing country-specific science and technology education case-studies for Inquiry Based Science Education (IBSE) considerations in the science and technology curricula in Africa.
IAP had been the main funder of the NASAC-STEP since its inception in 2012. One outstanding output of the STEP Working Group members was a report on “The State of Science Education in Africa: Survey Report”.
In November 2023, the STEP Working Group reiterated the purpose of the programme as being: To propose, review and provide technical advice for science and technology education in Africa and contribute to initiatives and dialogues that significantly contribute to enhancing how science and technology is taught and learnt in Africa.
