Annual Meeting of African Science Academies (AMASA 2024) Report

The 2024 Annual Meeting of African Science Academies (AMASA 2024) was held from 26–28 November 2024 in Algiers, Algeria, under the theme “Resources, Science and Technology for Development in Africa.” Hosted by the Algerian Academy of Science and Technology (AAST), the event brought together over 150 delegates from NASAC member academies, partner organisations, media, and the public.

The conference was structured around three core sub-themes:

  1. Ensuring One Health in Africa – Highlighting the use of mathematical, numerical, and biotechnological tools in public health, including AI, biotechnology, and digital platforms.

  2. Natural Hazards and their Impact on the Environment and Health in Africa – Addressing the scientific role in disaster risk reduction, climate resilience, and the integration of traditional knowledge.

  3. Mobilisation of Skills and Pooling of Scientific and Technological Resources in Africa – Emphasising postgraduate training, research collaboration, and scientific diplomacy.
