NASAC Member Academies Webinar on Forging Stronger Regional Teamwork
NASAC’s Academy Synergy Building Sessions concluded its Q2 webinar on June 5th, bringing together participants from African Science Academy secretariats to explore “Strengthening Regional Teamwork.”
SADC Success Story Inspires Continental Collaboration
Prof. Ishmael Masesane from Botswana Academy of Science showcased how six Southern African academies have successfully collaborated across borders, promoting gender diversity and inclusion in science through joint webinars and coordinated initiatives spanning Botswana, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Eswatini, Lesotho, and Malawi.
Key Strategic Insights
Participants identified three critical success factors for regional networks: streamlined communication systems, joint funding proposals targeting government priorities, and leveraging existing economic hubs for expanded opportunities. Prof. Masesane emphasized that governments prioritize funding research with direct community benefits.
The webinar highlighted practical approaches to overcome networking challenges while building on historical ties between academies. NASAC Executive Director Dr. Jackie Kado noted the session’s alignment with recently endorsed African regional hubs.
The next ASBS meeting focuses on “Leading Organizational Change” on August 7, 2025.
