The 2021 Annual Meeting of African Science Academies (AMASA 2021) Report
Summary
The Network of African Science Academies (NASAC), established on 13th December 2001 in Nairobi, Kenya, is an independent consortium of 28 merit-based, non-governmental science academies across Africa. Operating under the Inter-Academy Partnership (IAP), NASAC serves as a unified voice for science, providing evidence-based advice to governments and regional organizations on critical issues impacting Africa’s development.
NASAC’s mission is to foster collaboration among scientists, enhance science-driven policymaking, and promote sustainable development across the continent. By leveraging its networking capacity, NASAC connects science academies, strengthens their roles as independent advisors, and facilitates knowledge sharing in social, natural, and economic sciences.
Key initiatives include supporting the formation of new science academies, offering platforms for global collaboration, and providing capacity-building resources to enhance the impact of existing academies. NASAC’s efforts aim to establish a culture of scientific excellence in Africa, ensuring science contributes to the continent’s growth and innovation.
As the authoritative voice of the African science community, NASAC continues to unite academies, address continental challenges, and amplify the role of science in shaping Africa’s future.
