Brief Biodata: Emerita Prof. I. A. Quakyi specializes in Immunology, Parasitology and Public Health. University of Ghana (UG). Her research and teaching over the past four decades focused on malaria immunity, immunoparasitology, immunopathology, immunodiagnosis, autoimmunity, molecular immunology and vaccine development.
She has a PhD in Immunoparasitology from London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), England. She attained full Professorship of Immunology and Parasitology at UG in 2001.
Prof. Quakyi has over 100 publications 80 in peer reviewed journals and has supervised over 70 PhD and Msc students.
Emerita Prof. Quakyi was the first female director of the UG School of Public Health (UGSPH) and the Foundation Dean of UGSPH. She is a Fellow of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences, Fellow of the African Academy of Sciences, 2014 Laureate African Union Kwame Nkrumah Award for Women in Science, former member of Ghana Health Service Council, former UNESCO Chair for Women in Science and Technology in West Africa Region. Laureate ASTMH Clara Southmayd Ludlow Medal November 2019 for her contribution to Tropical Medicine.
