Africa Biennial Biosciences Communication (ABBC 2023) Symposium
The International Service for the Acquisition of Agri-biotech Applications (ISAAA AfriCenter) and its partners will host the 5th edition of the Africa Biennial Biosciences Communication (ABBC 2023) Symposium to be held on August 22-25, 2023 in-person, in Nairobi Kenya under the theme: “Evolution of Genetic Improvement Tools in Agriculture: Is communication matching up?”. The symposium will showcase several keynote addresses, thematic presentations, panel discussions, case studies, breakout sessions, targeted side events, plenaries and exhibitions.
The Network of African Science Academies (NASAC) in partnership with the International Network of Government Science Advise in Africa (INGSA-Africa) and Africa Harvest are privileged to host during the ABBC 2023 Symposium. The session is titled: Science Diplomacy and Science Advice with a keynote address on “Cultivating collaboration: navigating the science-policy nexus”. This session aspires to enhance the role of science in public policy at all levels of governance from local to global, and will focus on improving the use of scientific evidence for policy formulation and implementation. The 60-minute session further hopes to explore where to strike the balance in internal and external advisory mechanisms for national governments. In this context, and in line with the overall theme of ABBC 2023, the session will conclude by postulating an ideal role of a science diplomat for gene editing technology, as an example.
