ACADEMY DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVE (ADI)

Stakeholder Relations and Management
The first session of ADI took place on 14 March 2024 as a webinar on the topic “Stakeholder Relations and Management” with an audience of 20 participants.  The topic, which was determined by consensus, provided an avenue for enhancing interactions between existing and potential member-academies while providing an opportunity for peer learning.

The selected topics for the 2024 series will mainly focus on providing institutional mentorship to the potential members in the form of lessons learnt, shared experiences, and transformational perspectives. This targeted approach is expected to facilitate the formation of science academies in countries where none exist.

The inaugural presentation on Stakeholder Relations and Management was delivered by Dr. Pulane Koosaletse-Mswela, Secretary General, Botswana Academy of Science (BAS). The meeting was provided with insights from the BAS experience, their successes, lessons learnt, and benefits accrued in managing and relating with a wide range of stakeholders such as government, development partners and fellows.

During the discussions, members noted that legislative processes vary from one country to another countries, and that when establishing an academy in-country legal requirements must be adhered to. It was further agreed that NASAC would share templates for academy governance and support as peer mentorship among academy membership.
