The Nigerian Academy of Science (NAS) in collaboration with The World Academies of Science Regional Office of Sub Saharan Africa (TWAS ROSSA), and the Nigerian Young Academy (NYA) will be hosting the 2016 Regional Young Scientists Conference from the 23rd to the 24th of August, 2016 in Lagos-Nigeria. The theme for this year’s conference is “Inclusive growth and sustainable development in Africa: the role of Young Academies”.
The conference will be hosted alongside the Annual General Assembly of the Nigerian Young Academy from 23-24 August 2016. The sub-themes will cover the natural sciences, engineering, health sciences, and social and management sciences. A proper multidisciplinary mix of all these science options are required to accomplish “sustainable economic development” for Africa in line with the goals of TWAS-ROSSA.
The sub-themes will include:
• The role of science, technology and innovation in achieving sustainable development in Africa.
• Building sustainable and resilient health systems.
• Multidisciplinary collaboration in inclusive growth and sustainable development.
In 2015, the conference was held in South Africa in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology (DST), the Academy of Science of South Africa (ASSAf), the National Research Foundation (NRF), the Organisation for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD South Africa National Chapter), GenderInSITE, and the South African Young Academy of Science (SAYAS).
TWAS Young Affiliates and all young scientists from sub-Saharan Africa are encouraged to apply through NAS to attend this conference. The call for applications/nominations will be disseminated widely in July 2016. The accepted applicants will be sponsored by NAS and TWAS-ROSSA.
